If you’re just getting started with AI, one of the most confusing parts isn’t how to use it.
It’s knowing which tool to use.
You may have heard of ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
They can all answer questions.
They can all help you learn.
So what’s the difference?
And more importantly…which one should you use, and when?
Let’s make this simple.

The Big Picture (Simple Explanation)
Instead of thinking about which tool is “better,” it helps to think about what each one is designed to do.
👉 ChatGPT helps you create
👉 Gemini helps you connect and explore (especially with Google tools)
👉 Perplexity helps you find and understand information
Each one has a role.
ChatGPT (Create + Think)
ChatGPT is best when you want to:
write something
organize your thoughts
brainstorm ideas
explain something in a different way
It’s like having a thinking partner.
You can go back and forth, refine ideas, and shape something over time.
Gemini (Connected + Expansive)
Gemini works well when you want to:
explore ideas
connect information
work within Google tools (Docs, Gmail, etc.)
It’s helpful when your work already lives inside that ecosystem.
It can feel a bit broader, like it’s pulling from multiple directions.
Perplexity (Find + Verify)
Perplexity is best when you want to:
get a clear answer
see where information comes from
double-check something
learn something new without opening multiple tabs
It gives you answers, and shows you the sources behind them.
That makes it easier to trust what you’re reading.
When to Use Each (Simple Guide)
Here’s an easy way to think about it:
Use ChatGPT when you’re creating or thinking
Use Gemini when you’re working within Google or exploring ideas
Use Perplexity when you’re learning, researching, or verifying
You don’t need to choose one.
You just use the right tool for the moment.
A Simple Way to Remember
If you forget everything else, remember this:
👉 ChatGPT = create
👉 Gemini = connect
👉 Perplexity = understand
Where to Start (If You’re New)
If all of this still feels like a lot…
Start simple.
Pick one tool.
Ask one question.
That’s enough.
In Closing (Your Voice)
If AI feels overwhelming, it’s probably not because it’s too complicated.
It’s because you’ve been shown too much, too fast.
These tools aren’t meant to be used all at once.
They’re meant to support you ... one step at a time.
Start where it feels natural.
